Meet Mrs. Tafel
Who am I?
My name is Mrs. Tafel and I teach full-day Kindergarten at Washington Elementary School. This is my fourteenth year teaching and my tenth year teaching Kindergarten.
I live in Bangor with my husband, our 20 month old daughter, two Cairn Terriers, a giant goldfish, and a tank full of saltwater fish and live corals. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy playing with my dogs, reading, cooking, baking, playing guitar, listening to music (especially live music), crocheting, sewing, and fixing up my house. I also love spending time outdoors gardening, running, and hiking.
Where have I been?
I was born and raised in Utica, NY which is in the very center of New York State. I went to college near New York City, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2004. I moved to Buffalo, NY for my first teaching job: 5th - 8th grades in Niagara Falls, NY. I joined the Bangor Area School District in 2007. Since moving to Pennsylvania, I have earned my Master's degree in Early Childhood Literacy from Wilkes University.
What do I believe?
Education is very important to me. I love to teach, but I also love to learn and I believe that good teachers take every opportunity to learn more about their students and the world around them.
- I believe that everyone should have the chance to learn and grow in a safe and caring environment.
- I believe that everyone can learn, but we might learn in different ways, and our differences make the world interesting and beautiful.
- I believe in teamwork between teachers, students, and parents. If we work together we can help children believe, achieve, and succeed.
